seorang bayi tewas dan delapan orang pencari suara lainnya hilang di dekat pulau christmas, sabtu (13/7/2013).

angkatan laut australia menyelamatkan 88 pencari suaka dari perahu mereka yang tenggelam jumat malam dan telah membawa mereka ke pulau christmas, demikian dikatakan menteri dalam negeri jason clare.
mereka juga mengangkat jenazah bayi dari laut.
diperkirakan 97 orang berada di perahu yang berasal dari afghanistan, iran, dan sri lanka.
sampai hari sabtu pencarian masih terus dilakukan oleh angkatan laut, kapal dan pesawat terbang.
